What are texturizing shears used for?
Texturizing shears work in a way to help the stylist add more texture and shape to the haircut which can allow more movement creating the hair to not be a boring straight cut. Texture shears are designed generally with 7 - 15 teeth on one side of the blade and a straight blade on the other side.
Texturising Shears vs Thinning Shears
In most cases they are the same but some hairdressers might argue that texturising scissors have fewer teeth with wider gaps to create texture, whereas thinning scissors have more teeth with less space between them to remove weight from the hair.
A bad haircut with thinning scissors or texturising shears can damage your hair or simply ruin your hairstyle, but they cannot destroy the structure and density of your hair. After a bad haircut, your hair should grow back in a matter of weeks or months.
Thinning the hair is closely related to texturizing and is typically done at the same time as texturizing. The difference between the two is that thinning is removing bulk from ALL of the hair and not certain areas like weight lines. Thinning will help remove weight from the hair when you have a ton of hair.
"Rather than layering hair, texturizing the ends will make hair look longer and fuller," he said. "Keeping layers near the crown of the head gives the hair more lift without interfering with the perimeter, giving the hair and the style more density," Pistas added.
Stylists can use them to create volume in the hair while simultaneously giving the hair the desired texture they're looking for. Texturising scissors are used at the end of the hair and can be used for a variety of hair types: from thick and untidy to thin and curly.
What are texturizing shears? Texturizing shears generally have between 13 and 16 teeth. The teeth are farther spaced than on a thinner and they tend to be a little thicker. They are used in the place of point cutting for feathering bangs and hair around the face.
Texturizing is cutting hair so it adds movement and interest to the style. It's perfect for clients who want that volume and texture to give the hair an effortless look when really it's been days since they washed their hair.
No matter how thick the hair is, don't use thinning shears in the top section of the hair known as the crown or halo area or you risk not enough hair falling on top of the haircut to achieve the desired style.
Texture is only to make the ends wispy instead of blunt. Layers is to actually cut the hair at all different lengths throughout the hair. You can also have a textured, layered cut, which is what you do most of the time so your layers aren't blunt.
What happens when you Texturize your hair?
A texturizer is a chemical-based procedure to relax the texture of your curly and frizzy hair. It smoothes your curls to give you a softer hair texture. It is technically a mild version of a relaxer.
Take the shears one inch up from the length and angle them down in the direction of the hair growth. Each snip using thinning shears should be like gliding a comb through your hair, so when you make your cut, be sure and glide the shears all the way down through your ends.
